The Art of Food: Oliboli Donuts in Tustin

What do you do with a few minutes before heading to a 9 a.m. dentist appointment in Old Town Tustin?

Head to Oliboli Donuts!

Sweet tooth concerns aside, I turned my car on two wheels when I saw the sign to the hip doughnut shop that a family friend had recommended after she visited the store’s grand opening on October 22.

The 40-hour yeast dough is created from 30% hard winter wheat stone-milled flour, making a classic melt-in-your-mouth fried dough that serves as a perfectly pillowy foundation for glazes, jams, icings and puddings.

A friendly employee standing behind the glass counter explained the gorgeous array of doughnuts and suggested I be sure to try a cake donut — lightly-crispy on the outside and dense and moist on the inside. The Bumbleberry, ($3.25) a confection made with raspberries, blackberries and blueberries, is a crowd favorite.

I got a box of six — Bumbleberry, Orange, Spice, Maraschino Cherry, Cactus Pear and Plain Glaze — brought them into the office after a teeth cleaning and just maybe got a raise… 😉
