Meet Jacquelyn and Joanna, two Orange County gals who sit for eight hours a day at their office jobs and stick to a daily workout plan.
They’re the creators of Instagram page SweatandTell where they provide fun exercise tips, report on health trends and review yummy recipes.
Everyone has had that moment after a long workday when all you want to do is get home, eat and relax before the T.V. — even though you planned to hit the gym.
We chatted with Jac and Jo to find out how they balance a busy schedule and their tips for workouts. They also noted some of their favorite music to pump them up!
1.) What was it that first drew you to athletics and fitness?
We’ve both lived active lifestyles since we can even remember! Whether it was playing sports growing up or running marathons in college, we both have had a passion for fitness. We’ve found that working out is the best way to destress and reset your mind, it allows you to dedicate time to bettering yourself both mentally and physically. Of course, we love knowing that exercising gets you a kick a** body, but it’s so much more than that! Working out conditions you to realize that you are in full control of your body, building both mental strength and confidence.
2.) Of all the workouts you do, which would you say is your favorite and why?
We love HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) workouts such as Orangetheory, Barry’s Bootcamp and F45. Strength training is so crucial in order to see results and optimize fitness goals. We usually attend HIIT workouts that are 45 minutes to an hour long and include a variety of circuits such as sprints, free weights, TRX bands, and more. We’ve found these workouts to be the best way to get a killer workout and not to mention, get you feeling really sore the next day. The high energy, loud music and team environment is something that motivates the both of us during classes.
3.) What does your own diet and fitness regimen look like?
It truly varies day by day, but what stays constant is our dedication to live the healthiest lifestyle as possible, while still being able to enjoy some of the unhealthy temptations in life (sweets, alcohol, etc.). It’s so important to be realistic with your goals and allowing yourself to indulge or else you can find yourself hitting a wall of frustration, and that’s when the dozen of donuts step in – aka binging. We both exercise about 5-6 times per week and are adamant about mixing up our workouts so our bodies are always being challenged. We typically alternate between HIIT workouts, weight lifting, hot yoga and running on the beach. We’ve found that meal prepping is one of the best ways to maintain a healthy diet and resist unhealthy food temptations due to convenience. We know ordering pizza sounds so much easier but prepping for the week eliminates the stress of cooking for every meal. At the end of the day it is all about balance!
4.) How do you balance a busy schedule with a healthy lifestyle?
No matter how busy you are, it is SO important to take time for yourself. Working out will give you the energy, mental clarity, and confidence to balance a busy schedule. We treat our workouts just like an appointment we can’t miss. Having a workout buddy is also a great way to hold each other accountable. We like to plan our workouts a week out, so we have them set on our calendars and there is no excuse!
5.) What’s some of your favorite music/songs to blast while working out?
Our music genres range from a Vegas nightclub to a backyard BBQ and everything in between. We do prefer upbeat Pop, EDM (electronic dance music) and Hip-Hop for high intensity classes though! Here are a few of our current favs:
